Credit Cards and Trials

Many people seek for financial stability making new credit card deals. But far not everybody succeeds in this. Improving your financial situation having a credit card debt is not an easy matter. All of us perfectly realize than having a considerable outstanding balance on your credit card can lead to serious credit history damage and even to bankruptcy. But do you have any idea of the fact that in case you are unable to pay off your debt to a credit card company you can be put into jail?

You should always keep in mind this possibility and be ready to react in a proper way. If your creditors decide to take you to court for your credit card debts, do not give way to panic.

First of all, it is worth mentioning that major US companies Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover try to stay out of trials connected with suing their clients for credit card debts. They take pains to settle everything without involving court into this. Credit card companies can make a plan for your pay offs and give you helpful tips on how to eliminate your debt faster.

If you have a co-signer the credit card company is surely to contact him or her intending to collect the extensions of your credit. If the co-signer straightens out this situation, the case will never come to trial.

However, in case you are deeply indebted and you are under 40, you have more chances to be prosecuted, as compared to an elderly person, for instance.

So, if a trial seems to be inevitable, here are the 3 alternatives you can resort to.

Declare Bankruptcy

If you clearly realize that you do not stand a chance to pay off your enormous credit card debt, declaring yourself bankrupt is the best way out for you to avoid a trial. Declaring bankruptcy will help you to play for time and get out of debt, at least, partly. And your creditor will have to leave you alone. But you have to keep in mind that bankruptcy will leave a huge stain on your credit history and your financial future in general. You will need about 7 years to wash it off. So think twice and consult a professional before you decide to declare yourself bankrupt. Maybe one of the options mentioned below will help you to solve your problems and avoid bankruptcy.

Take Advantage of a Counseling Service

In this case you make a deal with a credit counseling service and pay a certain amount of money, mentioned in the agreement with this bureau, to a counselor. And the service pays off your credit card debt instead of you. With this method of eliminating your debt you damage your credit rating as well. But in case with a counseling service the circumstances will not be so long-lasting, and your credit score will be not so hard to repair, as if you file for bankruptcy.

Cut Down Your Expenses

If your credit card debt is not a six-figure sum, you can try to reduce your debt by cutting down on your expenses. You can do it. Analyze the way you use your current credit card deals. Even if it seems to you that you spend money only for living essentials, if you take a closer look at your items of expenses, you will find the spending aspects you can do without. Just tighten your belt and put up with the thought that you will have to reduce your spending for the sake of your stable financial future.

Just remember, when you happen to face money problems do not treat your credit card company as your bitter enemy. Your creditors are people, just like you. And if you reach out for their helping hand, they will willingly give it to you, instead of putting you into jail.
